Life-long fan Luke put in driving seat

We gave a dedicated Sheffield United fan the treat of a lifetime last weekend.

Business owner Mark Holland, along with Blades star Jamal Campbell-Ryce, picked up Luke Slaughter, 24, and his father, John, 54, from their home in Stannington ahead of the club’s league encounter with Preston North End.

The pair were taken to Bramall Lane in style, in one of our brand new Range Rovers, where they were also presented with two Blades home shirts courtesy of us.

Luke, who works as a sous chef at Claremont Private Hospital, won our social media competition after he received the most likes on Facebook for his statement which read: “I believe Sheffield United deserve to get promoted this season because Nigel Clough’s management, and the Blades fans backing with their loyal support, should get the players fighting for a title winning season! Blades are born, not made.”

Luke, a season ticket holder at Bramall Lane who has followed the Blades home and away since he was 15 years old, said: “When I first realised that Jamal Campbell-Ryce was in the car I was gobsmacked. It was a complete surprise to me.

“It was an amazing experience to be taken to the game in a luxury car alongside a Blades player. It was great to chat to Jamal and it’s not something I am going to forget in a hurry!

“It was a great day topped off by a great result. I’d like to say a massive thank you to John Holland Sales for their superb hospitality and in making this possible.”

Mark Holland said: “We were delighted to be able to take Luke and his father to game, along with Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

“Luke was a very worthy competition winner, you could sense his passion for the Blades just from his Facebook statement but this was even more evident when we met him.

“It’s great to give something back to the Club’s supporters and we hope to run more fan competitions before the season’s end.”
