911 MY FIRST LOVE
It all started about forty years ago when I was walking to school I saw parked in a drive the most beautiful car. It was a 930 Turbo which I was told belonged to Ian Anderson the lead singer of Jethro Tull but I can’t confirm this. From that day on I have always wanted a Porsche especially the one with the wide wheel arches like the turbo or Super Sport. Life goes on and you grow up, get married buy a house have kids. One by one priorities put paid to my dream of having a Porsche 911, but I decided that as soon as finances permitted, I would buy my dream.
A few years ago I joined Porsche club GB and was introduced to Ian and Sue Mcleod who not only live near me but Mac has the very car I was interested in a 1988/89 Super sport. He was able to give me some great advice and Ian and Sue have become very good friends and I often call round for a brew and a chat about Porsches of course.
After realising that the Super Sport coupe was rare and prices started hitting the stratosphere I started to despair of ever owning a 911. I even considered Mercedes AMG. When driving near home I saw a more modern Porsche these I had always rejected in favour of the older Super Sport but this one was different it had the wide rear, it was a 996 4S what a beautiful car. I was then smitten with them and started to research the model, Mac put me in touch with John McGirl the secretary of the 996 register at the Porsche club. I have had several chats with John and he has been absolutely brilliant in giving me advice about the 996 4S which has given me more confidence to purchase.
While looking for a 911 I decided to also look for a private number plate which I eventually found on eBay which was a great find, ideal for me and a 911 4S.
Looking in all the usual places like Piston heads, eBay 911uk I found several I was interested in around the country I was prepared to travel to find the right car which had to be black. I was looking through Auto trader on line when I came across John Holland car sales Sheffield which specialises in sports and prestige cars. They had a 996 4S for sale the right colour and spec. Reading through their information I decided to give them a call. I spoke to Chris Wilkinson who was most helpful and talked me through the car before I decided to travel over 2 hours to view. My good friend Chris Dransfield drove me over to Sheffield in his 996 convertible. On arrival Chris welcomed us with a nice cup of coffee and showed us round the car, I was immediately taken by the excellent condition and service record. I did have an issue with the two back tyres and no spare key but having done the deal Chris fitted two new tyres and said he would pay for a spare key.
My friend Nick Cardwell took me back to Sheffield to pick the car up it was looking great with the private registration and I had a most pleasant journey home.
Having the car now for a few weeks I have a smile every time I drive it and feel I am living the 911 dream.
I have been delighted with the service I have received from Chris at John Holland car sales and would not hesitate to buy from them again

I was initially nervous committing to buy a £50k Maserati having never inspected the car and knowing the deal would be done over the phone/email. Just a quick email to say thanks for all your help over a what was a rather hectic weekend. The end result though is amazing, what a car!! I said it in the showroom but it was probably the best car buying experience I've had to date, you made it all very easy and explained everything perfectly. The showroom alone is worth a visit if your a car buying enthusiast lots of lovely motors, a real toyshop!
I managed to put about 100 miles on the car on sunday with a constant grin, the noise of that V8 is just too addictive!! I still have hadn't time to play properly with everything though but did bring the manuals away to have a look at, as you said its probably going to be the longest 10 days ever before I can get my hands on it again...
Just a couple of things, I noticed there is no manual for the iDrive system, do you know if there is anything available on line to get hold of it? Also, DAB radio keeps saying no signal, again is there anything that needs doing in order to make it work? Cherry mentioned today that the satnav itself is coming up with an error saying insert disc, even though the disc is inserted, again, I've not had enough time to play and I'm sure they are just minor niggles that I can work through myself but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks to you both once again for what was a seamless car buying experience, I'll be recommending you for sure and hope to see you in the future when its time for a new toy.

It is very unusual in this day and age for me to experience service that puts a smile on my face let alone drives me to put an email together expressing my thanks and appreciation of service!
A little story you may wish to share with other potential customers of John Holland Car Sales ...
Towards the end of 2012 I was looking to buy a Porsche and had conducted a level of research not only about the 911 but all the stories, good and bad about actually buying the one! I started looking at various versions of the 911 and come up with a list of my must haves and some would like to haves .... been to see a few and test drove a few but one thing was sure, it was interesting to see how peoples descriptions of cars so often did not meet with my understanding of reality.
Using the internet I had started to cast my net further afield and ended up talking with a gentleman called Lee at a company called John Holland Car Sales. Now this was a little problem as he was some 200 plus miles away! Cutting a long story short I ended the call with placing a deposit on a car that I had not seen, other than the photos! What an idiot I thought but Lee assured me that if the car did not live up to expectations I would get my deposit back..... Over the coming days I spoke with Lee on a number of matters from insurance to private plate transfer and I can only say the quality and professionalism of the service he and his colleague Chris offered over the phone was exceptional.
The day arrived for for us to drive up and collect the 911. Now feeling that the best part of a 500 mile round trip along with the cost of the hotel for the night was potentially going to be a costly drive to look at a car and return empty handed. On the drive towards Sheffield I kept on asking myself if I was mad! Well the simple answer was no - the car was everything I had been told over the phone and the team in the sales office could not have been more courteous and helpful towards us on that day. The quality of service was just exceptional and the car truly was as Lee had described and the time he had spent on the phone taking me through every detail of the car and its history was done without the feeling of him wanting to get me off the phone as he has another priority (as is so often the case these days!).
Well the 911 behaved itself all the way home and I hope will continue to do so. However, my dealings with JHS did not end there! The car that I part exchanged had some outstanding finance that I had informed the finance company about along with what I was doing. We had completed all the paperwork etc at JHS on the day and we all thought that was going to be the last of it ...... but no. The finance company would not accept the payment from JHS and that led to Peter Lefley contacting me to see if the finance company had been in touch with me on the matter - the response was "no" . Peter could not do enough to then help resolve the issue and all the time was doing this with the priority of causing minimum disruption to me.
I would sincerely like to send this as a mail of thanks to all the people I have had the pleasure of meeting with or talking with over the phone. The level of courtesy, professionalism, respect and overall level of service was outstanding....

Finally the Range Rover P38 came to Cyprus.
Just wanted to THANK YOU for this deal. You kept the car in amassing condition and I have not anything to tell you except THANKS. (of course there are some very minor things like driver windows, which is working only by it mood))))) but I will solve them very soon).
You know all people who saw the car, including custom officers, MOT serviceman, Traffic department and RR official service!!!!!!!!! were chocked because of balance of age and condition.

Had a brilliant weekend at home, drove up to the lakes on every B road I could find.... it's an awesome little car, no refinement what so ever.... just makes a lot of noise when it hits the power and steers like a go cart... big grin factor, which is what driving is all about.
My Jag is sophisticated and smooth, but the liitle boxster is just a weekend hoolligan.... absolutely brilliant fun ....... great motor, and if you want a customer review...... just ask !!

Trawling the web to find a reputable garage for the purchase of a high quality car is exhausting. One is always left with that nagging feeling of parting with large sums of money and the subsequent worry of problems with the purchase. Not so with Chris, of John Holland Sales. I purchased a Range Rover HSE Sport OVER FINCH over the phone, without seeing the car, and have received nothing but the very best after sales service. I could not be happier. The website is accurate and comprehensive. The car was immaculate, was delivered to my driveway in Surrey and the few small issues that needed attention were dealt with in a professional and thorough manner. I am not a person who takes rash decisions but the car was going to be sold quickly and I had to make a snap decision which is not in my nature. I am usually very deliberate in my decision making process but I do not regret making a snap decision this time and would do so again with Chris of John Holland Sales.
I would recommend John Holland Sales to even the most reticent of purchasers.

Having purchased an Audi from John Holland Car Sales in November 2011 I feel compelled to write this short testimonial summarizing my experiences dealing with them. Let me first of comment on the 3 month warranty they offered me, to be honest I thought seen as the car looked in such immaculate condition even if the warranty was another in the line of fake promises I was still getting a car at exeptional market value (in other words cheaper than private purchase and no warranty). First test of the warranty offered was parking assist not working, Lee the saleman I have dealt with throughout offered that I either bring car back to them or have it done locally. I took him up on the latter and after £180 of work the jod was expedited with no fuss (this is good I thought ….). The true test was yet yet to come. Since buying the car I noticed an intermitent judder in 1st/2nd gear which at first I put down to me not being used to it, with the problem not going away I decided to look it up on the web – at which point I scared myself stupid since it mentioned major work concerning gearbox and possible ensuing damage! Now bearing in mind this problem was only intermitent on contacting Lee at John Holland I thoroughly expected to be fobbed off with the usual well bring it back to us and we'll see …. On the contrary when I turned up back at John Holland Lee had already done some research himself and knew in greater detail issues surrounding the problem! Now I have never experienced this before!! To cut a long story short I am writing this testimonial before going to collect the car from them after a huge amount of expensive remedial work done under the '3 month warranty'. I am going to end this testimonial by adding that if you as a potential customer are looking at the higher end luxury car market and are wondering who best to deal with then look no further, I have been driving 32 years, dealt with countless garages some good some not so good but none that compare to these Guys. Don't risk buying from anywhere else it simply makes no sense. Just one last word of thanks goes to Lee, thoroughly nice guy and as it turns out a very rare honest one, thank you,

I thoroughly enjoyed buying my M3 from John Holland. I had been given the run-around on a few others. Having found this one on the net I journeyed up not expecting much. The showroom is great though. Filled with all the cars you want at good prices.
The finance is as good as any rate I could find for HP.
Having already shaken on the deal, a set of front tyres were thrown in, they didn't look that worn to me, and a tank of fuel to boot. My usual experience with dealers is to find a petrol station within 10 miles or risk calling out the AA.
You get the feeling they understand this won't be the last car you buy.

As I am sure you will agree, buying a car on the internet, especially a used car, is nerve-wracking.
I told you that I bought a used Porsche 911 Turbo from a Porsche dealership several years ago. The buying process was very similar to the experience I had with you - totally professional and hassle free -no haggling over the price and a fair part exchange offer for my vehicle. However, the after service provided by Porsche was appalling, and I had a problematical period of ownership. With this still fresh in my mind, you can imagine my concern when within hours of collecting my Jaguar XKR from you, an engine malfunction warning light appeared on the dashboard. Overnight I was worried what I had bought and how you would help sort the problem.
First thing the following morning, I went to see a local Jaguar independent specialist, who diagnosed the problem,I called you whilst I was at the garage,and you immediately authorised the repair – no quibble – under your own warranty scheme. Impressive or what?!!
I cannot tell you what a relief that was, especially as I live over 100 miles away from your showroom.
I understand that cars are liable to mechanical fault at any time, but to have problems within hours of driving off, you can imagine I was naturally very worried.
Your immediate response was hugely reassuring, and restored my faith in my decision to buy from you.
I have had no problems since, and have been really enjoying the car – it looks great and the performance is superb.
When I am ready to change my car, I will certainly be speaking with you and the team at John Holland Car Sales!!

I had been looking for an X3 for many months when I suddenly found John Holland Sales. On speaking to Chris over the phone I felt this was the car for me; we agreed a price and I paid a deposit without even viewing the vehicle. Chris reassuring me that if I didn't think it was as described,I would get a full refund.
On the day of purchase the car was exactly as listed,and the deal was done. I had not bought from a specialist dealer before and I have to say,that right from the initial phone call I felt I had 100% of Chris's attention at all times. I bought a car from Chris at John Holland Car Sales in April 2011. Chris made the whole process a very simple, efficient and enjoyable experience, from when I first turned up to view the car through to collecting it.
I travelled a long way to look at the car & was pleased to find it exactly as described & pictured on the website, in perfect condition! Chris was very open & honest about the car, happy to show me all of the documents & explain the work that had been done since they took it as a part exchange. Their technicians had done a wonderful job on the paintwork, leather & wheels, leaving the car looking like new.
Chris arranged everything for me; transferring my private number plate onto the car, changing the bumper & even getting my from the tax disc for the car I was part exchanging.
