We pledged our support to the UK Armed Forces by taking part in an extreme obstacle course endurance event.
John Holland gave its backing to Help for Heroes, the nationally-recognised charity which supports the British Armed Forces, by taking part in the Yorkshire Tough Mudder at Broughon Hall, Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Peter Lefley, our business and marketing manager, along with close friend Jordan Tunnicliffe, completed the gruelling 13-mile, 2.5-hour course, which took in the Yorkshire Moors and 27 obstacles – including the menacing-sounding ‘Cliff Hanger’, ‘Swamp Stomp’ and ‘ElectroShock Therapy’.
The pair finished in the top three of a group of more than 100 at the international event, which also sees similar courses held across Europe and the USA.
The race was the second endurance event which Peter and Jordan have completed in the last year, after they took on the Hull Half Marathon in 2016 to support Chesterfield youngster Harrison Parker, seven, who suffers from a congenital heart disease known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).
Peter, who joined John Holland in 2012, said: “The Yorkshire Tough Mudder certainly lived up to its name – it was extremely tough!
“But it was a brilliant event to take part in and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Jordan and I remained in the top three of our group the whole way around, alongside a Spanish Tough Mudder who competes in similar events around Europe – although we struggled to communicate as speaking Spanish was hardly top of our agenda at the time!
“We’re very grateful for the support shown by John Holland – we were asked about the business by several people on our way round so it was a great day all round, all for a fantastic cause.”
Mark Holland, our managing director, said: “We’re extremely proud of Peter and Jordan’s efforts at this year’s Yorkshire Tough Mudder, they certainly took on one hell of a challenge.
“To even complete the event was an achievement in itself but to finish in the top three in their group was outstanding, so a huge well done to them both from everyone here at John Holland.”
