We’re delighted that inspirational youngster, Harrison Parker, will be fulfilling a lifelong dream of going to Disneyland later this year!
Following a huge fundraising effort in 2016 by our business manager, Peter Lefley, and his good friend Jordan Tunnicliffe which raised more than £4,000 after receiving donations from countless extremely generous businesses and individuals, young Harri will be able to tick off another item on his ‘things to do before I pop it’ list, which includes a wide range of activities – some of which are small, simple ideas.
The list includes spending a day at the zoo, riding a horse, driving a digger, attending an ice hockey match and many more fun-filled activities.
Peter and Jordan ran the Hull Humber Bridge Half Marathon almost two years ago to enable Harrison to travel to Disneyland Paris, and finally the trip will be taking place.
Harrison is terminally ill due to a congenital heart disease known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), which means the left lower pumping chamber of his heart hasn’t developed properly, meaning his heart is unable to pump blood around the body effectively.
He also has other heart conditions, including an unbalanced atrioventricular septal defects (AVSD) and Bilateral Superior Vena Cava and a Systolic Murmur, all of which further impact on his health.
To prolong and give him a better quality of life, Harrison has undergone several open-heart surgeries.
Harri’s mum, Jeni, said: “If it wasn’t for Peter and Jordan’s huge effort, and of course all the amazing businesses that have supported them, it would never have been possible to get Harri to Disneyland.
“He’s really excited to meet one of his favourite Disney characters, Lightning McQueen, and I’m so happy that he’ll finally get the chance! For a number of reasons, this trip has been a long time coming but we’re glad that the day is almost here.”
Our business manager Peter said: “Jordan and I are extremely grateful for the support of John Holland and all of our sponsors.
“When you meet Harri, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed by him – he’s such a charming young boy and Jordan and I feel privileged to have played our part, along with everybody who has supported our fundraising effort, in getting him his dream trip to Disneyland.
“This is the least he deserves, and I hope that this, coupled with the other things Harri and his mum have planned for the next few months, makes even a small difference.”
Jordan and Peter are extremely grateful for the donations of sponsors including Sports Direct Meadowhall, Auto Trader UK, HR Media Ltd, MotoNovo Finance, Greenhill Motor Company, Autoprotect (MBI) Ltd, Crossroads Garage, Synergy UK, Mann Island Finance, Close Brothers Motor Finance Sheffield and Belgrave Motor Company to name but a few.
