Chauffeuring a special lady for the day

When we heard the news of a Sheffield woman who was facing her 100th birthday alone because she had no surviving relatives, John Holland offered a helping hand.

Thanks to an appeal by BBC Radio Sheffield, Winnie Blagden celebrated her birthday in style at the local city hall and was sent 16,000 cards from around the world.

We donated a luxury long wheel base Jaguar for the day, with company driver Dave Willey chauffeuring Winnie to and from her Sheffield home and her surprise birthday party.

John Holland’s Natalie Baldwin said: “When we saw the appeal online we were very keen to help in any way possible and we’re delighted that BBC Radio Sheffield took us up on the offer of a car and driver for the day. We hope it went some way to making Winnie’s special day even more memorable.”
